Beleaguered SNP first minister backed by Kate Forbes but faces confidence votes after ending agreement with Greens

Humza Yousaf has written to the leaders of other parties to invite them to talks in an attempt to find “common ground” as he fights for his political future and reiterated that a Holyrood election cannot be ruled out.

Yousaf has come under increasing pressure in recent days after his decision to axe the Scottish National party’s governing agreement with the Scottish Greens on Thursday morning.
