GOOGLE Chrome users have been urged to check for an update in their browser after three “high level” threats were uncovered.

One of the trio was Google’s fifth zero-day vulnerability patch of the year – meaning it is one of just a handful of threats that previously had no defences against hackers.

In an advisory notice, Google wrote that it was “aware that an exploit for CVE-2023-5217 exists in the wild.”

This means hackers discovered this particular threat before Google’s security teams did.

The cyber gap handed hackers a range of capabilities, such as arbitrary code execution (ACE).

This is when a cyber crook has the ability to run commands of their choice on any device it gains access to via a vulnerability.

Researcher Clément Lecigne, of Google’s Threat Analysis Group, reported the bug at the beginning of the week.

TAG researchers are known for hunting down vulnerabilities in targeted spyware attacked by government sponsored cyber gangs.

The other two “high level” risks were use-after-free flaws that could put your passwords and extensions at risk.

Although 10 security fixes in total were deployed by Google in the new update.

It is likely to take days or weeks until the updated browser reaches all 3.2billion Chrome users, according to the advisory notice.

Most web surfers will have their Chrome update automatically.

However, Google Chrome users should keep an eye out for the update if that Setting is intentionally switched off.

The update is titled: Google Chrome 117.0.5938.132.
