Unilever has stopped paying Ben & Jerry’s board members in an escalation of the dispute over its ice cream sales in Israel. The consumer goods giant reportedly halted payments to the brand’s independent board last month in an apparent retaliation for Ben & Jerry’s decision to sue Unilever for selling the rights to its business in Israel.
Ben & Jerry’s, one of Unilever’s top brands, has accused it of using ‘pressure tactics’ in the dispute. The ice cream firm said last year said it would no longer sell products in Israeli settlements on occupied lands, as it was ‘inconsistent’ with its values. Ben & Jerry’s is suing Unilever to keep its ice cream out of the West Bank.
