Doug Beattie to consult party about stepping down after tweets branded misogynistic and racist emerged

The leader of the Ulster Unionist party is fighting for his political future after a series of historical tweets emerged that have been branded misogynistic and racist.

Doug Beattie said he is “deeply ashamed” over the “horrific” tweets and will consult his colleagues over whether he should step down.
