Slide in new car registrations comes as petrol and diesel prices soar in Ukraine crisis

The number of new cars sold in the UK in March was the lowest for the month in 24 years because of the ongoing semiconductor shortages and the cost of living crisis, as electric vehicles enjoyed a record month.

The slump in new car registrations, down 14% compared to March 2021, follows two months of year-on-year sales increases. It comes as the cost of petrol and diesel continues to soar to record levels in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
