It’s the go-to social media site for millions of people around the world, including when websites like Facebook or Instagram are down, but for an hour on Thursday Twitter went offline – the second outage in nearly a week.
According to DownDetector, the issues started at around 16:00 GMT (11:00 ET), and affected users globally. It appeared to be up and running again an hour later.
While the reason for the outage remains unclear, users reported being unable to load tweets or view profiles. Although it didn’t appear to affect all users.
MailOnline has contacted Twitter for comment about the latest outage.

MailOnline tried to view tweets on the Twitter website, and received an error messaging saying ‘Something went wrong’
On DownDetector, more than 5,670 people reported issues with Twitter, seeing a notable spike in reports from about 16:00 GMT (11:00 ET).
Of those who reported issues, 85 per cent said the problem was with the website, nine per cent were experiencing a server connection, and seven per cent were struggling with the Twitter app.
MailOnline tried to view tweets on the Twitter website, and received an error messaging saying ‘Something went wrong.’

Twitter users across the UK have reported problems, with the majority of reports coming from those in London
Some users were still able to access the website, either as normal, or with issues.
One user wrote: ‘Is Twitter partly down for anyone else? My timeline isn’t loading completely anymore.’
Another added: ‘Seems tweets are loading but replies and other timelines not appearing. What’s happening? Cyberattack? Glitch?’
And one joked: ‘my twitter is down but I don’t know why I am tweeting this because it won’t actually send.’
Other social media platforms, specifically those owned by Meta – Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger – have experienced outages regularly.
Twitter went down for less than an hour last week, but seemed to mainly affect users in Europe.
