Drivers heading to France told to expect 60-minute wait while UK rail passengers faced delays after storm

Travellers crossing the Channel at the Port of Dover are facing long queues as disruption to the Christmas getaway continues across the UK.

Drivers heading to France were told to expect a 60-minute wait at French border controls after “exceptionally heavy traffic” on Friday. An unscheduled strike by French Eurotunnel workers in a row over bonuses the day before led to the cancellation of about 30 Eurostar trains – leaving tens of thousands of travellers scrambling to replan their journeys.
