They were largely resolved by 2:00 p.m. UK time (9:00 a.m. EST).

More than 7,000 people logged issues with TikTok on DownDetector, which monitors the status of apps and websites.

The app was hit by the unexpected downtime in the US and UK, as well as parts of Europe.

On DownDetector, 50 per cent of complainants said they had trouble loading the app.

A further 23 per cent reported problems connecting to servers, while 13 per cent said they were unable to post videos.

The Sun tried to access the app from London and found that videos were not loading on the For You feed.

Content on people’s profiles also failed to load properly.

In a statement, TikTok said: “A small number of users had an issue with the TikTok app earlier which has now been resolved.”

Users took to Twitter to vent their frustrations at the outage.

One person tweeted: “Is it just me or is @tiktok_us
down, I can’t see my videos or any other creator’s videos.”

Another wrote: “Tiktok is down and i have nothing else to do with my life so i went straight to twitter.”

TikTok launched in 2018 and has quickly become one of the world’s most popular apps, boasting an estimated one billion users.

It is owned by Beijing-based ByteDance. The Chinese version of the app, called Douyin, was created in 2016.

Users post and watch short videos in which they dance, lip-sync, act out sketches and more.

Outages are rare for the company. The last major hiccup struck TikTok on November 12, 2021.
