Here are some ideas on how to get the most from your garden . . .

TIME FOR TEA: Dandelions are an edible weed packed with nutrients. Tap into the goodness with a homemade tea.

You’ll need around half a cup of dandelion roots, leaves or flowers for every cuppa. Clean them in cold water, then pour boiling water over them.

Let it steep for between ten and 20 minutes. Strain out the dandelions and add a little honey if you prefer a sweeter taste.

FLOWER POWER: Daisies are said to be good for bumps and bruised skin.

A homemade infused oil is easy to make and can be added to a bath.

Dry out daisy heads first (this will prevent mould), before placing in a sterilised jar. Then steep the flowers in olive oil, or another carrying oil, for two weeks before use.

PRINT WORKS: Flowers from the garden can be used for crafts. Try flower pounding on fabric or paper — it’s great fun for children.

It works best with brighter blooms such as dandelions, as well as greenery, but experiment with any plants from your garden.

Dig out scraps of white fabric, such as cotton or linen, and cut into rectangles around 14cm by 20cm and place on cardboard.

Arrange the flowers or leaves on the fabric face-down then cover with kitchen towel.

Use a hammer (a wooden one is best for children) to pound each part of the flowers into the fabric. Make sure you hammer on a surface that isn’t delicate to avoid any damage.

When you are finished, just peel off the remains of the flowers from the fabric.

Only use flowers where you are sure no pesticides or other chemicals have been used.
