WHATSAPP is always battling to be your texting app of choice – but it could be better.
We’ve mustered up three must-have features WhatsApp needs to add, which could give it the edge over slick rivals like Apple iMessage.
Editing texts
WhatsApp was ahead of the game when it came to letting users “unsend” texts.
But it’s now been scooped: Apple is just weeks away from allowing messages to be edited after delivery in iOS 16.
WhatsApp needs to catch up, and fast.
The ability to easily correct typos could be a lifesaver, especially if you’ve made a very embarrassing bungle.
Memoji
One of iMessage’s best features is Memoji – custom avatars that look just like you.
You can send Memoji stickers, create custom animated Memoji clips, and even use a Memoji as your face during FaceTime video calls.

We’ve heard rumours that WhatsApp is working on adding a similar feature.
But Memoji has been out for years, so it’s about time WhatsApp created its own version.
Doing a WhatsApp video call as an animation would be great fun – and might actually be possible within a year, if the leaks are true.
Better group chats
Group chats are part and parcel of the WhatsApp experience.
Almost everyone who uses WhatsApp will be in at least one group chat – but are they good enough? No!
There’s plenty of room for improvement.
For a start, WhatsApp needs to roll out the ability for users to silently quit groups.
And group admins should be able to delete texts for everyone – not just themselves.
WhatsApp should also make good on its promise to add Communities.
These Communities are designed to be groups of groups, and could revolutionise the way we use the app.
Maybe you could have a Work Community that would have lots of smaller groups inside.
Or maybe your local area would have a Community, which splits into separate groups for schooling and complaining about neighbourhood issues.
Thankfully most of these features are already in development.
So we could see them land on the live version of WhatsApp before the year is out.
