The help was announced by Rishi Sunak earlier this year as part of a package of measures to help households struggling with soaring energy bills.

Payments started to be made from April and there is no need to repay the money.

If you pay your council tax by direct debit, you will get the money automatically.

However, those who don’t will have to wait longer to get the money and in some areas will have to apply to receive the grant.

In West Suffolk, the district council is processing over £6.3 million of the Council Tax Rebate Grant to the majority of West Suffolk band A-D households.

But residents there will have to apply for the rebate grant online if they do not pay for their council tax through direct debit.

Anglia Revenues Partnership, which brings together the revenue services of several councils including East Suffolk Council and West Suffolk Council, is writing to residents who do not pay by direct debit asking them to complete an online form so they can receive the rebate as quickly as possible.

However, you do not have to wait for the letter and can complete the form on the Anglia Revenue Partnership website.

If you want to find out about receiving the £150 council tax rebate but don’t know which area you fall under, you can use the government’s local council finder tool.

Households in West Suffolk must make sure they provide the bank account details for the person named on any council tax bill.

For those yet to apply for the rebate, you’ll have to be quick as the deadline is June 5.

The rebate will be provided as a separate payment, rather than as part of your council tax bill.

What other help can I get with energy bills?

It follows Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s announcement in the House of Commons last week Brits will get up to £1,500 off their energy bills under a giant £21billion cost of living bailout.

Some of the chancellor’s main announcements were:

The £400 energy discount for UK households will start to be dished out in October.

It comes with the energy price cap set to rise again.

The £300 one-off payment to pensioners will come on top of the existing Winter Fuel Payment worth between £100 and £300 that those over state pension age get already.

Meanwhile, millions of people on Universal Credit and benefits will get a one-off £650 cash boost to help them cope with soaring bills.
