THE UK’S best supermarket has been revealed, based on shopper’s satisfaction with everything from value to checkout queues.
More than 3,000 shoppers were asked about their in-store and online shopping experience by consumer champion Which?.

The annual survey looked at a range of factors including store appearance, product range and value for money
M&S came out on top of the in-store ranking, with a customer score of 77%, for quality, range of products and store appearance.
Aldi was close behind with a score of 73%, with shoppers praising its value for money.
The German discounter came joint second with Waitrose, which scored highly in categories like quality of own label and fresh products.
The other stores that make up the top five are Iceland and Lidl.
The traditional ‘Big Four’ of Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Asda and Morrisons achieved some respectable star ratings but came further down the table
While M&S scored well in most categories it fell down when it came to value for money, where customers gave it only two stars.
“Excellent quality, but it has its price,” one shopper told Which?

At the other end of the spectrum the Co-op came bottom of Which?’s survey for shopping in-store with a customer score of 61%.
When it came to online grocery shopping Ocado came top.
The online-only supermarket scored high for its delivery slots and collection availability, customer service and range of products, receiving a customer score of 81%.
Joint second for online shopping in Which?’s survey were Iceland and Waitrose.
Reena Sewraz, Which? retail editor, said: “Our results highlight how many shoppers are prioritising value for money above all else, but for those who can afford it, high-quality products and a positive shopping experience still really matter.
“None of the supermarkets received five stars for value in-store, but the discounters still led the way in this category.”

Supermarkets often reduce the price of food nearing its use-by date to shift stock and stop food waste.

For example, Sainsbury’s runs its Nectar card reward scheme, where customers receive points every time they shop in stores.
And checking the price per quantity is another great way to see how much you are actually paying for your groceries.
