When it’s hot outside, the last thing most people would consider reaching for would be a puffer jacket.

But a bizarre new coat promises to keep you cool, thanks to a beer-powered cooling system.

Tiger Beer joined forces with fashion designer, Izzy Du, to create the unusual puffer jacket, which has been unveiled ahead of Paris Fashion Week

‘Making a puffer for the summer is an external expression of how refreshing and cool it feels to drink a Tiger,’ Ms Du said.

‘I started with the feeling of opening an ice-cold can of beer, and playing with the colours of Tiger Beer, before imbuing the aesthetics of the puffer with a new function.’

On the surface, the Tiger Summer Puffer looks like a fairly standard jacket, with bright orange layers of insulation.

However, what you can’t see from the outside is a network of plastic tubes hidden within.

These tubes are filled with water, which is chilled using cold beers, before being pumped around the jack.

The tubes make contact with key points where the arteries are closest to the skin, cooling the body down by up to 5°C, according to Tiger.

‘Inspired by the same tech that keeps astronauts cool in extreme temperatures, we tried a variety of cooling system designs, each making the jacket more effective at keeping the wearer cool for as long as possible,’ said Masashi Kawamura, Chief Technology Officer of Whatever Co., the creative studio that engineered the tech.

‘We tested various tube placements, tube materials, water tank designs and electronic wiring before landing on the final mechanism.

‘We even had a trial run where the jacket became too cold to wear, and we had to tune it down to get it to the right temperature.’

The futuristic coat will go on display during Paris Fashion Week, although it remains unclear when, or if, it will go on sale.

MailOnline has contacted Tiger for further information.

This isn’t the first wacky coat to hit the headlines in recent months.

Back in March, a bedding company designed a coat fashioned from duvets, which stretches from shoulder to ankle.

Joan Johnston, co-inventor of the duvet coat, Coaroon, which takes its name from the Scottish word ‘coorie’, meaning cuddle, said: ‘Many people enjoy a duvet day, snuggling on the sofa, but they get cold again when they have to get up to go to the bathroom or kitchen.

‘So we wanted people to be able to keep warm, as if they were still wearing the duvet, although this is a carefully designed garment with style in mind.’
