That’s what motorized wheelchair-dependent travelers face. Many don’t travel because of those odds. About 1% to 2% of all wheelchairs and scooters are mishandled—damaged or delayed—by airlines, according to Transportation Department statistics. That can be catastrophic to users who lose their mobility.
