Ballet superstar Natalia Osipova is pirouetting into the latest wave of the crypto craze, NFTs – or non-fungible tokens.

Having started dancing aged five in Moscow, Osipova has risen to become a principal dancer at the Royal Ballet.

But she is hoping to win over a more tech-savvy audience to sell the world’s first ballet NFT.

An NFT is a unique cryptographic token, essentially a computer file that demonstrates proof of authenticity.

The tokens, or digital certificates of ownership, have been used to sell a piece of art for £50million and a tweet for £2.1million.

The internationally acclaimed dancer, 35, has performed three pieces alongside her choreographer and contemporary dancer fiance Jason Kittelberger.

They hope to use the proceeds to start their own dance company. The works – videos of the performances – are open for bids at auction house Bonhams until December 10.

Buyers will get a digital copy of the video and a certificate of ownership, which can be kept or sold. Two performances from the ballet Giselle will start at £8,000.

A performance by the couple of contemporary duet Left Behind starts at £30,000.
