ICE IDEA: This is one of my all-time favourite hacks. Invest in a cheap fan — Wilko currently has a 16in Beldray High Velocity Floor Fan for £35, cheaper than those at Robert Dyas for £44.99 — then place a bowl of ice in front of it to create a cool breeze.

COOL RUNNINGS: Ditch hot showers and baths, as you will feel even more clammy when you are outside. Turning the temperature down a notch is an easy way to dehumidify, keep yourself cool — and save on your energy bill.
HEAVEN SCENT: Stay nice and fresh with half-price across L’Oreal men’s products at Boots, making the L’Oreal Men Expert Cool Power 48H Anti-Perspirant Deodorant, 250ml, just £1.75, down from £3.50. At Superdrug, the Sure range is on offer too. Get the Sure Deodorant Aerosol Shower Fresh 150ml for £1, instead of £2.65.

GRILL POWER: Using the oven or hob will heat up your kitchen, and maybe the rest of your home too because hot air rises. Where possible, use just your grill, or a barbecue — or treat yourselves to some tapas-style picnic dinners. You can get three picnic or cold sharing-food items for £5 at Iceland, saving you at least a quid.
GOT IT COVERED: If you are having people over in your garden, the storms may mean that it is time to invest in a gazebo. Aldi has a Gardenline one for £99.99 and Wayfair Claudie gazebo for £75.99 — but B&Q (diy.com) has the Suhali white gazebo online for just £31.
