PICK THE BEST: Sign up to as many survey sites as possible but avoid any that charge you a fee.

You can expect to earn from 50p to £2 per survey. You often have to build up a minimum balance before they pay out.

Try ylive-community.com (formerly PopulusLive) which has been paying out some competitive amounts recently, at £1 to £4 per survey.

Swagbucks.com is a popular site where your survey points earn you gift cards. Other top payers include i-Say and Crowdology, or try the Curious Cat and Google Opinion Rewards apps.

For updates on top-paying surveys, see the Facebook group Best Survey Sites.

BE QUICK: When you get emails from the survey sites, add them to your inbox favourites list to stop them going into your spam folder.

Ensure you have email notifications set up on your phone. That way you can pounce on a survey as soon as it arrives. Usually, the quicker you are the more likely you will be accepted.

TEST IT OUT: You can earn more by signing up for market research, where you are asked for your opinions on a topic or product by video or in person. It takes longer but that means greater rewards.

Recently takepartinresearch.co.uk offered £110 if you were selected to try a new face powder for four weeks, while video call opinions on topics such as car insurance start at £40.

Other sites to try are Saros, Angelfish Opinions and Research Opinions.

BECOME A SUPERFAN: Love a certain brand? Always buy a particular product? Email the company and ask if it has any customer testing panels you can join.

Food companies often want opinions on new flavours and product lines they are thinking of launching.
