Using them will slash your power bills, which is helpful with the small fortune it costs to run a tumble dryer.

The spikes retain heat and move the clothing around inside the tumbler, leading the warm air to circulate more efficiently.

As such, clothes will dry faster and people will be able to have their dryers running for less time – saving them money on their power bill.

A box of two of the balls sells for £5 at home furnishing retailer Dunelm, or £2.50 each.

Clothes washers who had tried the balls found they had worked well.

“I bought these with the idea of cutting down drying time in the tumble dryer and I must say they have actually done so by about 10 mins. They are well made,” said one.

“Work well, even better at sale price, less drying time,” said another.

“My dogs love these lol they come running over when I empty the dryer waiting for them to drop out of the towels …..

“I don’t like fabric conditioner in all items so I find these helpful in separating the fibres especially on towels after the have been air dried,” said a third.

One energy expert, Colm from energy saving products shop purchase.ie, has revealed on TikTok how much dryers cost to run “Tumble dryers typically use about a euro (87p) an hour when they’re on.

“But these are dryer balls, and you put them in with your laundry.

“Instead of the clothes getting stuck together, this helps to separate the clothes and distribute them around the tumble dryer better.

“This means the clothes are able to dry faster. They can reduce drying time by up to 20 percent.

“So for every hour you use your tumble dryer, you could be saving up to 20c an hour.”

Just watch out your pooch doesn’t think the balls are its chew toy!
