The aim of the label – which is the first of its kind – is to show customers which products are menopause-friendly.

Suitable items will have an M-tick on them and these labels will be clearly displayed on products both in-store and online.

Menopause is a natural part of ageing, which usually happens when a woman is between the age of 45 and 55.

In the UK, the average age for a woman to go through menopause is 51.

It occurs when oestrogen levels in the body start to decline.

During this time periods become less frequent or they can suddenly stop, and after menopause occurs women will be unable to become pregnant naturally.

A menopause-friendly section has also been set up in some Tesco stores to help shoppers find these dedicated items and show which are safe to use when menopausal.

The new sections can be located at the end of an aisle in nearly 200 stores across Britain for the next six weeks.

At the moment there are more than 48 recognised menopausal symptoms, and more than 70 per cent experience one or more of these.

Many of the symptoms can be debilitating, so easy access to products that can ease discomfort can make a huge difference to many.

Boots pharmacy have a whole range of products to help those suffering from any of the above.

These include a specially designed menopause skincare range, supplements and body wash.

According to Health Line there are some natural ways to ease symptoms.

It recommends eating foods that are rich in calcium and vitamin D to improve bone health and prevent weakness.

Examples of these foods are green leafy vegetables like kale, and dairy products like milk and yogurt.

It also suggests natural supplements to ease symptoms also it says no evidence has been found of their effectiveness.

These include black cohosh and red clover.

Some studies found that black cohosh may effectively alleviate hot flashes but the evidence is mixed and there is a lack of long-term data on the safety of this supplement.

A review of studies found that red clover isoflavone supplements may help reduce the daily frequency of hot flashes from a baseline of three per day.

But, study authors noted that more specific research is needed to confirm the effects.
