Family courts in England and Wales can take more than a year to make decisions on where children will live after separation

Tens of thousands of children in England and Wales are being left in limbo by delays in the family court that have meant many waiting over a year for their future to be resolved.

The Law Society said the system is in crisis after data showed children who have been removed from their parents are having to wait an average of 46 weeks to get a final decision on where they will live.
