PAY DAY, PUT AWAY: Set up an automatic transfer on pay day to send a fixed sum of money into a savings account. The money will come out of your current account before you’re even aware it’s there. FIND YOUR LIMITS: Keep a track of spending habits and work out where you can cut costs. Maybe ditch the daily coffee, or walk rather than catch the bus and have one less drink on a night out. These little limits can help cut down your monthly spend and leave a little more to stick in the kitty. You can also pop any loose change in jar to boost your savings.
BOOST IT: Loyalty schemes can help you rack up points and offers while you shop. Tesco’s Clubcard vouchers will save you pounds on a big shop in the future — maybe for Christmas. HAUL OR NOTHING: If you need to buy gifts for birthdays, special occasions or even Christmas, make a list of everyone you need to cover and set yourself a budget. This way you’ll be more than ready for when Black Friday and any December sales hit.
You can also start stockpiling those little extras. For example, next time you buy something from a beauty counter, ask for free samples — they make fantastic stocking fillers. You can also start adding certain food and drink (look for offers and reduced-to-clear items) to your weekly shop and stash or freeze ready for the festive season.
