SUPERMARKETS and retailers have agreed to back a fuel price checker to drive down prices for motorists.
Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons will share cost data with the public by next month, Energy Secretary Grant Shapps revealed yesterday.

Using PumpWatch, motorists will be able to find the best-priced petrol and diesel deals local to them.
The superstores, along with BP, Shell and Esso, agreed to implement the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) watchdog’s voluntary information sharing scheme.
Mr Shapps said: “The commitment to a more transparent market is a step in the right direction.
“But those who fail to put words into action and continue to rip off motorists will be held to account.”
He described recent “over-charging” as “inexcusable”.
The summit, which follows our long-running Keep It Down campaign, comes after the CMA found drivers paid an extra £900million on fuel last year, being charged an additional 6p per litre more.
Costs rocketed after Ukraine was invaded but have fallen.
The CMA said competition was not working as it should.
