A STUNNING riverside home with its own private island is up for sale for an eye-watering £1.4m – and it could get even bigger.

The Summer House is in Maidenhead, Berkshire, on the banks of the River Thames, also has planning permission to extend it to create a much grander waterfront property.

The current house has 1,187 sq ft of accommodation.

There is an entrance hall, an open plan reception room with a sitting area that has three sets of French doors opening on to the garden and river views and a stylish fitted kitchen.

The ground floor also has a bedroom with built-in wardrobes and river views and there are two wet rooms.

A cleverly concealed door leads to the first floor where there is another spacious bedroom.

The planning permission would allow for the raising of external walls, new roof height and a two-storey side extension.

There is also an annexe, called The Tree House, built in 2000 as a studio and refurbished in about 2008-09.

It offers another 682 sq ft of space with an open plan reception room, two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

In the gardens there is a workshop and store room, parking for several cars and 110ft of river front with a decked mooring.

It also has an incredible view of the Grade I listed Brunel railway bridge.

The property is on a pretty no-through road that backs on to the river Thames and is about a mile and a half from Maidenhead town centre.

Fiona Copeman, from Savills, who are selling the property, said: “Houses like these, with its proximity to the river, don’t come up very often, because people tend to hang onto them.

“And it’s right next to the Brunel bridge so it has excellent commuter links.

“It comes with planning permission to extend it and it’s own little island in the Thames. It’s only small and has only really got ducks on it, but you could put a table and chairs on it, it’s like an extra bit of garden.

“It’s a really wide stretch of the river and a great spot for watching rowers, wildlife and lots of activity on the water.

“The property is ripe for the picking for someone who wants to run with the planning and make a lovely house on the river.

“It is going to need somebody with quite a lot of money to do it up, the value of the property is in the planning permission.”
