So try these stocking-up ideas, at less than £2 a gift.

FOODY FANS: Sweets and chocolates make traditional stocking fillers, but popcorn also works well.

It’s relatively cheap and bulky, so it’s great if you’re struggling to fill up the space.

Holland & Barrett has fun flavours, including raspberry and liquorice, for 79p a bag, or get three bags for the price of two. You could also stuff some nuts in a stocking.

Aldi does flavoured bags for less than £2, including dark chocolate Brazil nuts.

BREW-TIFUL: Most of the supermarkets have own-brand festive-flavoured tea and coffee that can be wrapped as fillers.

A box of Sainsbury’s Taste The Difference mulled spice infusion tea is £1.50.

Or you could put in other soft drinks. For a G&T fan, try a bottle of Fever Tree damson & sloe berry tonic water, £1.50 from Tesco with a Clubcard.

BATH TIME: Adding bath treats can work for almost anyone. Primark has bath bombs that start from 50p and come in shapes such as doughnuts and ducks.

Or you can get bubble baths and salts for a quid from Poundland.

BUY THE BOOK: Books can make a nice change of pace for a stocking. Search charity shops for second-hand copies.

And notebooks are always useful, Tesco has assorted novelty styles from £1. Or you can get colouring books for kids from £2 in The Works.

MAKE IT PERSONAL: For some-thing a little special try a personalised fridge magnet from Asda. Just choose a photo to get printed on to it, and you can add text underneath. Prices start from £1.

Or print off a special photo and pop it in a frame. Dunelm has simple styles from £1.
