FANS of Stella Artois are rejoicing after its latest beer returned to tradition by being five per cent in strength.
The new Stella Artois Unfiltered “hazy beer” reverses a trend of lower alcohol levels.
It comes 12 months after lager purists slammed killjoy makers for watering down the main brand to 4.6 per cent.
But Unfiltered has proved an instant hit with punters.
One drinker, writing on Reddit, said: “Tasted how I remember Stella tasting 15 odd years ago before they watered it down.”
Another fan, writing on the Asda website, said: “This tastes wonderful, and such an enjoyable flavour with no aftertaste and is the old Stella’s five per cent alcohol volume.”
Michael Davies, 31, from Derby, said it was “terrific news”.
The estate agent added: “This is fantastic. Finally Stella is back to what it should be — at full strength. It’s a fantastic comeback.”

Stella Artois sold in the UK was originally 5.2 per cent alcohol. In 2012 it was cut to 4.8 per cent as part of a shake-up that saved millions of pounds by offsetting duty hikes and cost increases.
Last year it was lowered further, to 4.6 per cent. The Unfiltered lager, manufactured by AB INBev, is available in 660ml bottles, 12x330ml bottles and 6x330ml cans.
