STAR Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a great first attempt at bringing a new Star Wars story into games.
There were some issues that prevented it from achieving greatness, but it was an exceptional attempt.

As the sequel is getting ready for launch, we were able to spend several hours playing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, showing that the team is confident in its new launch.
There’s a short tutorial section that helps you catch up on the story so far, but as the first mission starts, you head straight into the action.
Cal Kestis is one of the galaxy’s last Jedi, and Survivor starts with him encountering Zee, an ancient droid that has been trapped in a cave for centuries.
Zee rescued, Cal discovers that its mission was handed down by the Order, which inspires Cal to go to work.
Cal now has a variety of battle stances that he can change between mid-battle.
He has a double-bladed lightsaber like Darth Maul, but he can also split it into two for single or dual wielding.
Each mode has its own strengths and weaknesses, and the ease at which you can change between them, allows you to try them all freely.
Cal also carries a blaster, and while we didn’t get to play with it, we were able to see a gameplay demo.

It comes with a number of fancy finishing moves, including combinations using the blaster and the force that spice up the combat.
Like most action adventure games, it comes with a skill tree and points you can unload into it, as well as customisable equipment.
There are also a vast number of cosmetics, which blissfully have no bearing on your stats, allowing you to choose how you want to look.
This encourages you to explore. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor isn’t open-world, but each stage offers a vast area to explore.
You will find difficult opponents hidden in every corner, which can become a lesson in frustration.
The combat is best played when you fight a single strong enemy, but when a larger horde gangs up on you, it can feel like there’s no escape.
It can feel a little strange as there isn’t really any feedback when you complete a successful parry.
Essentially, if you’re not stunned then you parried, but larger enemies don’t react at all.
Usually an audio cue will play when you complete these successfully to let you know you’re on the right track, so we’d like to see this in the final game.
Parrying is one of the game’s central mechanics, which can feel intimidating to players who aren’t familiar with it.
However, everything from enemy aggression to the timing of your parry can be customised, allowing you to find the level of difficulty that’s right for you.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor could be a strong start to gaming’s 2023, it has plenty for players to dig into.
Fans of Star Wars will adore it, and with some tweaking, it could be something for everyone.
