SPOTIFY has made a major change requested by users for years – and it’s sure to take on YouTube.

The popular music streaming service is adding full length music videos to the platform for the first time.

Premium users in the UK and ten other countries will start seeing music videos from today for artists including Ed Sheeran and Ice Spice.

But US music fans will have to wait for now.

A new “Switch to Video” button will appear on tracks that have an accompanying clip to watch.

Users can flip their smartphone into landscape to enjoy videos in full screen.

Spotify is the world’s most popular music streaming service with more than 236million subscribers.

Fans have welcomed the announcement, saying: “You can finally watch music videos on Spotify!”

Another said: “Awesome, takes me back to the good old days with MTV.”

A third wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Music videos definitely add another dimension.

How to watch music videos on Spotify

The ability is watch music videos on Spotify is only rolling out to 11 countries for now, which are:

  • The UK
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • The Netherlands
  • Poland
  • Sweden
  • Brazil
  • Colombia
  • Philippines
  • Indonesia
  • Kenya 

The feature is in Beta at the moment, meaning Spotify are still doing tests.

As it’s rolling out you may not see the option on your Spotify account immediately.

And it’ll only work on songs that have a video music uploaded – it’s going to take a while to get all music videos up.

If a track does have a music video you will see a “Switch to Video” toggle.

You can go back to sound-only by tapping the “Switch to Audio” button that appears.

The feature works on eligible accounts via iOS, Android, Desktop or TV device.
