XBOX OWNERS racing to ditch their consoles for a PS5 are in for a shock.

Following the news that Sony is buying Bungie — the studio behind Halo, and Destiny — Google saw a surge of people searching for how to sell their Xbox.

Avid players could end up getting locked out of their favourite games because of platform exclusivity.

Similarly, when Microsoft announced its intent to buy Call of Duty maker Activision, there was a panic over the future of the series.

Both Sony and Microsoft have the power to make their newly adopted shooters exclusive to their respective consoles.

And it seems players are already looking at switching hardware, but Xbox players considering the jump to PS5 will have to pay over the odds.

One year post-launch, the console is selling for as high as £800 over on eBay.

There was a flurry of hugely inflated PS5 listings at launch as scalpers hoovered up the stock with bots and sold it on to desperate gamers.

While the prices aren’t as high as they were a year ago, it’s still almost doubling the price.

Despite frequent restocks, resellers and scalpers are still prevalent, meaning that the least expensive option is still to buy direct from a retailer.

Sony’s console is still hard to get hold of and shortages are expected to persist this year.

The company has even had to lower its PS5 sales forecast for year by over three million unit to allow for the deficit.

Scalpers will eventually have to drop the prices of the console to something more realistic, so holding out is the best option.
