TV viewers have voiced their devastation as both Sky and Virgin set are to pull the plug on one of their popular channels.

The 24-hour film station, TCM, is to be permanently scrapped from tomorrow after more than two decades on air in the UK and Ireland.

TCM is known for its classic movie coverage, showcasing Western oldies and numerous all-time favourites like A Space Odyssey and Ocean’s Eleven.

Now, with just hours before it’s removed, nostalgic comments are pouring in as fans reminisce over watching TCM for all these years.

‘You made my memories with my nan, best memories ever,’ one person said.

Another added: ‘I don’t understand there are far to many wasted channels which is silly TCM is a really good channel.’

The heartfelt comments come after TCM revealed that its last day on UK TV would be July 6.

In a Facebook post, it said: ‘On July 6th, we’ll be riding off into the sunset one last time.

‘Thank you for joining us on our journey and for loving classic movies just as much as we do.’

As of now, the classic movie station is available on Sky’s 315 and Virgin’s 415 channels.

From tomorrow, it will no longer be broadcasted here, meaning associated +1 channels will be ridded of too.

It is not clear what time this will take place, but MailOnline has approached Sky and Virgin for comment.

Following its closure, TCM has directed TV viewers to Quest if they want to continue watching their favourite films.

Both channels are operated by Warner Bros, with Quest available on 149 and 137 on Sky and Virgin respectively.

Quest is also available on Discovery+ – a streaming service that is largely dedicated to non-fiction and sports content.

But it seems this back-up option hasn’t taken away from the disappointment felt by numerous TCM fans in the UK.

‘Farewell TCM Movies UK,’ one person said. ‘Thank you for being with the UK for so many years. We will miss you.’

Another chimed in: ‘My dad is in a period of mourning because the TCM channel is closing down in the UK.

‘Where will he watch old black and white and cowboy movies?’

One tweet called out Virgin Media, saying: 'Lovely email telling me that TCM movies will be closing and no-longer available but not to worry my bill won't be impacted. Very considerate to take away channels but keep the price the same. Represents good value - feeling very lucky!'

The firm apologised, adding: ‘We endeavour to bring you a wide variety of channels however these can change from time to time, as we can only air the channels we have a license and agreement to. Apologies for any disappointment.’

TCM is still available in the US on platforms such as Hulu.

The American streaming service HBO Max also continues to host a curated section of TCM, although this is not available to UK viewers.

WHAT IS QUEST?

Following the closure of TCM, TV viewers have been directed to ‘Quest’ if they want to continue watching their favourite films.

Quest is a channel that ‘invites you to enjoy the shows that live out your passions, with experts and people who really know what they’re talking about.’

But alongside non-fiction content, it does also showcase films.

This channel is available on 149 and 137 on Sky and Virgin respectively.

It’s also available to Freeview watchers on channel 12 and the streaming service Discovery+.
