SKY customers have been warned that a popular TV app feature will stop working today.

The broadcasting giant is planning to shut down its Sky+ app completely by the end of May.

It’ll mean anyone with a Sky+ HD box will no longer be able to control their set-top box using their smartphone.

Sky will stop providing updates, resulting in features to eventually break.

Ahead of the cut-off, the company is already pulling some features.

From today, Channel Favourites will no longer appear in the app and your list of Favourites on the app’s TV guide won’t be shown anymore either.

The company is also pulling the app from iPhone and Android stores today, so no-one will be able to download it going forward.

If you already have the app installed, what’s left of it will continue to work until May 31.

The move is unsurprising, given that most people have moved across to the newer Sky Q service.

And the main app customers now use is Sky Go.

Sky+ HD was launched all the way back in May 2006.

“We always aim to support the most up-to-date, secure and high-performing technology,” Sky said.

“The age of the Sky+ app on iOS and Android means that the services used are out of date and cannot be continued or improved in the existing app.”

Sky is urging affected customers to use the Sky Go app instead.

A link to the newer service will appear at the top of the Sky+ app reminding users.
