SKY TV’s Android-using customer base is still waiting for a new remote perk that iPhone users have had for months.

A virtual remote was added earlier this year to the Sky Go app, giving Sky Q box customers a brand new remote free of charge – but the release came with a slight issue.

It was discovered that Android users were unable to use it, and are still waiting to do so.

The TV giant previously said the update would be available “this year” but with only 11 days left until 2024, customers have jumped on social media to question if that’s still the case.

It has since clarified that it will now be available in the new year.

Earlier posting on X, one user wrote: “Clock’s ticking guys, 11 days left to get it launched!”

While a second user said: “Apple phones only. Boo”.

Other customers have ditched the idea of waiting for the update altogether and are instead relying on third-party apps.

One user, said: ‘Sky UK remote in Google Play Store…. Can pick remote works really well…’

A representative from Sky said: ‘It’s still on Sky’s roadmap and will announce when launched.’

It looks like Android may have to wait a little while longer before finally getting the same privileges as iPhone users unless a sudden release happens in the coming days.

For the lucky iPhone owners, here’s how to set up your free remote:

Firstly, make sure you have the latest version of Sky Go installed on your iPhone first.

Then once that is done, open the app and tap the settings cog in the top left corner.

Under the “devices” heading, you should see Sky Q Remote.

Tap it and set the feature up.
