SKY broadband has gone down for thousands of customers across the UK.

The internet outage has left Brits without online access as almost four thousands users report issues on Downdetector.

The outages have been reported in London and Cardiff as well as Norwich and Birmingham

Residents in London and Cardiff have been affected by the outage as well as reports coming from Birmingham and Norwich that the internet is down.

Users are reporting that the major issues are affecting their internet access but it’s thought that Sky’s other services such as TV and mobile, aren’t affected by the outage currently.

The outage is the second of its kind to occur on a major scale in the last fortnight as Sky users reported similar problems only seven days ago on July 28.

If you’re a Sky customer and you suspect your broadband has gone down, we explain how to check the service in your area.

Frustrated customers have logged their complaints on Downdetector and Twitter.

One user on Twitter said: “Sky Broadband is down in Cardiff/Newport area.

“Tried ringing Sky helpline and the phone services are even down. Very strange!”

Another said: “Tried calling but ‘systems are down’ at the moment and no one can help.”

The inaccessibility to Sky’s help desks seems to be a big problem for users currently as yet another said: “Lost internet connection to Sky and tried calling but couldn’t get help as systems are down.”

Sky has now apologised to frustrated customers on Twitter saying: “Our tech teams are aware of an issue impacting our broadband customers at the moment.

“Please be assured we are working to restore service as soon as possible.

“Apologies for the inconvenience caused.”

Others on the social media site shared how everything appeared to be fine on Sky’s website, stating there are no detected issues, but reports of the outage are still coming in.

Sky has more than 6.2million broadband customers so the news that services have temporarily suspended will be an annoyance to most.

Sky’s help team on Twitter did provide details last night of planned maintenance that would take place during the early hours of this morning, but users seem to still be experiencing issues.

There are also reports emerging of NowTV, which is owned by Sky, being down for hundreds of users as well.

The issues with the telly streaming service appear to be rife in the same locations as the Sky outages with hotspots in London and Cardiff.

It comes following news that almost 15million people experienced issues with their broadband last year.

According to USwitch, the average home was left without internet for more than two days in that time too.

You can get compensation for service issues that leave you offline.

You’ll need to make sure you report the outage so your provider is aware of the problem, but then you will likely be entitled to compensation automatically – which could be over £8 a day.

How do I check the service status of Sky?

Broadband issues are frustrating for customers as thousands of people continue to work from home.

You can monitor service issues online or via the My Sky app.

To find out if you have problems in your area either use the online service checker or sign into the My Sky app.

See our Sky outages guide for more information on how to check your service and if you’re eligible for compensation.

Virgin Media’s internet also went down on July 6 causing more than 1,200 reports on Downdetector.co.uk.

A mass outage took banks, streaming sites and even the PlayStation Network offline for thousands of users two weeks ago too.

We’re all praying for hotter weather to return, but sometimes that can cause your router to go down too according to Virgin Media.
