Hundreds of Sky and NowTV customers complained of a service crash

Nearly all the complaints – 94% – focussed on problems with internet, with 4% having issues with their TV and 2% with their phones.

Most of the issues appear to be resolved now, with Sky’s help team advising customers to check the service status page if they continue to experience problems.

But at the time, the main areas affected cropped up in London and parts of the North West, with Birmingham and Brighton coming up against issues too.

Angry broadband customers took to social media to report problems with the providers.

You could get hundreds back in compensation for broadband outages

One tweeted: “@SkyHelpTeam having issues with the sky broadband.

“Only some websites are working despite restarting the router.”

Another said that their broadband was “super spotty” too, and one furious customer posted: “@SkyHelpTeam please sort your broadband out!!! I am trying to work”.

While a NowTV customer tweeted at the company: “Is there a problem your end or work being done, we are nowtv broadband and have intermittent to no connection?”

It’s not the first time Sky Broadband has been down – in March, hundreds were booted offline.

It went down a number of times last year including a spat of blips in August.

While Plusnet went down recently, leaving hundreds with no mobile phone signal.

How do I check the status of my internet?

Sky has a dedicated page where you can check if there’s been a broadband outage, and if an issue is widespread in your area.

You can also use it to check the service for Sky TV, Sky TV apps and Sky mobile services.

This link will take you to the website. Enter your landline number to check the service.

You can also check your NowTV service status on the company’s website.

The website also gives step-by-step help on what to do if you’re having issues.

You can also run a test on your home wifi to see if there’s anything you can do to get it up and running again.

If you’re suffering issues with your internet, call or mobile services then you may be entitled to compensation.

Internet firms usually pay out £8 for each day that broadband and phone service is not repaired after two full days of no service.

If you’re a mobile customer and you suffer from a lack of service then you may be entitled to a refund or account credit.

But this will vary on a case-by-case basis usually – and it also depends on your provider.

If you’re without service for a long period of time then you may have the right to leave without incurring a fee.

Now TV is owned by Sky, which is signed up to the Automatic Compensation Scheme alongside other broadband providers.

This makes it easier for customers to get money back when there’s an outage.

If you want to make a complaint to the Sky customer service team, they can be reached on 0333 7591 018. Help is also available online here.

If your service goes down then it’s worth asking for compensation, even if it doesn’t fall into one of these categories.
