‘QUIET quitting’ has been hitting the headlines with over eight million views on TikTok and counting.

The social media megatrend doesn’t refer to workers actually quitting their jobs, but quitting the idea of feeling pressured to put work first before your family or social life.

Now a global phenomenon, experts believe Quiet Quitting emanated from the now-banned Chinese social media tag “#TangPing”.

Translating to “lying flat”, it encouraged millions of young employees do only the bare minimum at work – and left firms feeling seriously threatened.

The trend has taken off in the UK too with a recent report from global research giant Gallup revealing that just nine per cent of UK workers feel enthused about their job.

But with a HuffPost study showing we’ll spend an average of 13 years and two months of our lives at work, it makes sense to search out a job where rather than Quiet Quitting, you want to be loud and proud about what you do.

I'm an employment expert - four ways to get a pay rise without asking

Here are the top six Sun Job tips for finding a role you want to shout about.

  1. Life your best work/life: Your career and your lifestyle are interlinked and one will always impact the other.  To find a job you adore, think of the lifestyle you want first then assess which roles will support that Career v Lifestyle balance.
  2. Does the job reflect who you are? Does it fit with your values and passions? Will it inspire you? Is there room for you to grow personally and professionally? Can you help others or champion a cause you care about?
  3. Could you be an ambassador for the company? If you are already a customer or talk about the firm’s products or services without being asked, it could be the company for you.
  4. What will the company give back? Work is a two-way relationship. Look at the whole package from pay and perks to wellbeing and any freebies.
  5. Say “I work for XXX”: How does it feel when you consider yourself as their employee. Are you proud to be part of the organisation or would you want to hide where you work?
  6. Where will you work? In the office, store or factor? WFH? Hybrid or digital nomad? Consider where – and when – you want to work to get you best work-life balance.
