Veteran singer Tina Turner has sold her rights catalogue to music publishing giant BMG.
The £225million deal will see BMG acquire hits such as The Best and Nutbush City Limits as well as the rights to Turner’s name and image. Renowned for her distinctive voice, boundless energy and tempestuous relationship with former husband Ike Turner, the singer had five platinum albums including 1984’s Private Dancer.
Her biggest hits include What’s Love Got To Do With It, Steamy Windows and the Bond theme Goldeneye.
Turner, 81, said she was confident her music was ‘in reliable hands’. BMG boss Hartwig Masuch said: ‘We are honoured to take on the job of managing Tina Turner’s musical and commercial interests.
‘It is a responsibility we take seriously and will pursue diligently. She is truly and simply, the best.’
Turner, who retired after a sold out farewell tour in 2009, is the latest artist to cash in on the value of their back catalogue, following Blondie, Shakira and Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks.
The deals give the artists an upfront payment, with music publishers able to stream songs across different platforms
