It was posted in response to a Fire TV Stick user asking for help because their remote was failing to pair up with their device.

“Why is my fire stick remote not working? I’ve done everything it says when the remote detected not working.

“I’ve unplugged the input and I’ve switched the batteries but it still does not seem to work, is the remote dead? How would I switch it?” the user asked.

Other Amazon Fire TV Stick users tried to help the confused remote owner in the comments.

“Happened to me as well. Turned out, that nothing was wrong with the remote. It was simply not paired with the tv.

Just follow these simple steps. Yes….. simple when you know how…” said one Fire Stick owner.

They also attached a YouTube link alongside their comment, which led to an explainer video about remote pairing.

The YouTube video shows a fix for when the power and volume buttons aren’t working on the remote.

It was posted by a YouTuber called YoTuPi and has over 50,000.

The trick is easy to follow and it’s also detailed in the description of the video.

I swapped my Amazon Fire Stick for ‘game-changing’ Google Chromecast – there are more free apps and it’s way faster

“To fix this problem you need to go to settings. Go to equipment control,” YoTuPi wrote.

You then need to click on Equipment and then press TV so the Fire TV Stick can be detected.

“Select yes. Press the power button on your Fire TV remote to turn off the TV.

“Then press the power button again to turn on your TV,” YoTuPi continued.

You’ll then see a message asking if the TV did turn on and off when you clicked the power button.

If the answer is yes, your remote has been updated.

Amazon also has advice for users who are struggling to pair their Fire TV Stick remote during setup.

“If your remote doesn’t pair automatically, press the Home button until “Press to start” appears on-screen,” Amazon says.

This can take about ten seconds to load so don’t worry if it doesn’t appear right away.
