THE IPHONE is one of the most popular smartphones in the world, mainly thanks to its intuitive interface, top-notch design and excellent variety of apps.

But there’s one issue that commonly irks users and that’s the phone’s battery life.

For most, their iPhone barely lasts a full day after an overnight charge, which can prove pretty frustrating – especially if you have plans in the evening and haven’t managed to top up the battery throughout the day.

Thankfully, there are a few hidden tricks you can take advantage of that can help extend the battery life of your Apple device.

Here are some of the best…

Turn off your WiFi connectivity when out and about

Warning for all iPhone fans – simple mistake could cost you money

One of the best ways to save on battery life is a simple hack related to WiFi.

This is a common mistake that users make: leaving WiFi turned on when they’re not on a WiFi network.

Simply turn your WiFi off when you’re out and about and use 4G or 5G instead of a WiFi network.

This will have a positive impact on how long your battery will last as your iPhone won’t be continuously searching for a WiFi network to connect to – an activity that needs a significant amount of battery power.

However, if you’re at home or at a friend’s house, always try to connect to WiFi over using data connectivity as this will use much less battery.

To turn Wi‑Fi on or off, go to your iPhone Settings > Wi‑Fi.

Turn on Auto-Brightness

Other ways of saving on precious battery life, no matter how you use your device, simply come down to optimising your settings.

For one, make sure you turn on Auto-Brightness. This feature adjusts your screen to lighting conditions automatically and will dim the screen when you are in low-lit conditions to help save the battery.

To activate it, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations and set Auto-Brightness to On.

Enable Low Power Mode

Another sure-fire way to save battery life is by enabling Low Power Mode. This reduces display brightness, optimises device performance and minimises system animations.

In Low Power Mode, apps including Mail will not download content in the background, and features like AirDrop, iCloud sync and Continuity are disabled.

You can still use key functions like making and receiving phone calls, email and messages, accessing the Internet and more. And when your phone charges up again, it automatically switches off.

To enable it by going to Settings > Battery.

Switch off Background Activity

Yet another great way to preserve battery life is by turning off Background Activity. This feature indicates that the battery is being used by other apps in the background, while you’re using another app.

To improve battery life, you can turn off the feature that allows apps to refresh in the background. Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and select Wi‑Fi, Wi‑Fi & Mobile Data, or Off to turn off Background App Refresh entirely.

Make sure you’re up to date

Finally, always make sure your device is using the latest version of iOS.

This is because Apple is constantly releasing patches that improve the way iPhone uses its battery power.

To make sure you have the latest update installed, simply go to Settings > General > Software Update.

If an update is available, you can plug your device into a power source and update wirelessly or plug it into your computer and update with the latest version of iTunes.
