The online supermarket began allowing Smart Pass members – who pay a monthly subscription fee – to schedule their festive food shop from September 30.

However, many found they didn’t receive an email to let them know slots were set to open up.

Some shoppers claimed they were unable to get the slot they wanted as many had already been snapped up.

Other supermarkets, including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda, are yet to announce when their Christmas slots will open.

A Waitrose spokesman said: “As in previous years, we released our Christmas slots early to a small proportion of online customers.

“We’re really sorry for any disappointment caused, but we still have good availability across our Christmas slots.”

All Waitrose customers can now access grocery delivery and collections slots on its website – they can be viewed online here.
