A £9 hooded blanket is also among the cut-price buys described on social media as essentials as temperatures plunge.

Britain has been bombarded by torrential rain as well as cold weather in recent days after Storm Ciarán hit, causing chaos and cancellations.

Online Home Buys is now suggesting five ways to keep warm at home for less than £15 apiece – while also keeping down heating bills.

These include what’s called a Supersoft Hooded Blanket, a £9 outfit which models have been shown wearing to keep cosy.

“You can snuggle up in style and upgrade your relaxation game for a fraction of what you’d pay on the high street.”

Other recent shopping tips to keep warm this winter include an Oodie hooded blanket, a discounted electric blanket from Robert Dyas and men’s heated socks.

Winter trainers, self-heating scarves, thermals and windproof umbrellas have been touted too.

And there has also been advice about gloves for women, men’s dressing gowns, cream jumpers and petite jumpsuits.
