DUNELM is ideal if you’re looking for home furnishings on the cheap, but there’s one way of getting discounts all-year round.

The retailer sells everything from furniture to curtains, blinds and storage products, regularly putting on sales for customers.

But you can get money off certain items 365 days a year through the retailer’s “Returns Outlet” page on its website.

Some UK shoppers can nab discounts worth up to 70% off at three Dunelm outlet stores too.

Shoppers using the Returns Outlet page can pick up discounts on beds, sofas, living room furniture and upholstery such as armchairs.

All the products have been bought by customers but then returned to the retailer.

There’s currently seven items for sale on the page, with discounts worth up to 10% on offer.

We spotted a Mito double futon reduced from £209 to £188.10 and a Blake curved velvet l-shaped sofa for £791.10 instead of £879.

The discounts might not seem hefty, but the items are essentially brand new with Dunelm’s website saying its staff check over any returned items to make sure they’re in good condition.

The cost of having the returned items delivered to your home is the same as when buying new as well.

Dunelm’s website says if you need to return an item from the Returns Outlet because it’s faulty, it can offer you a refund or repair, but you can’t exchange any pieces.

If you’re looking for bigger discounts, you might be able to get 70% off if you live near Staffordshire, Bradford or Greater Manchester.

Dunelm has three physical outlet stores in Fenton in Stoke-on-Trent, Bradford and Rochdale.

The branches stock ex-display products and items suffering from wear and tear with giant discounts.

Shoppers can grab “as new” items for 30% off, slightly damaged products for 50% off or items with greater wear and tear at a 70% discount.

All three of the outlet stores have dedicated Facebook pages where you can check out all the latest discounts on offer.

Other little-known outlet stores

Dunelm isn’t the only retailer to offer customers returned or damaged items at reduced prices.

Ikea’s “Circular Hub” can be found in all of the Swedish retailer’s branches, usually by the tills, and they offer customers giant discounts.

Shoppers have posted online blinds they’ve found from their local hub for £3.20 instead of £5.

Others have found coffee tables worth £200 selling for £60 and blinds for £1.29 instead of £69.

Office Offcuts offers shoppers discounts on shoes with minor wear and tear too, with discounts worth up to a whopping 94%.

How to compare prices to get the best deal

JUST because something is on offer, or is part of a sale, it doesn’t mean it’s always a good deal.

There are plenty of comparison websites out there that’ll check prices for you – so don’t be left paying more than you have to.

Most of them work by comparing the prices across hundreds of retailers.

Here are some that we recommend:

  • Google Shopping is a tool that lets users search for and compare prices for products across the web. Simply type in keywords, or a product number, to bring up search results.
  • Price Spy logs the history of how much something costs from over 3,000 different retailers, including Argos, Amazon, eBay and the supermarkets. Once you select an individual product you can quickly compare which stores have the best price and which have it in stock.
  • Idealo is another website that lets you compare prices between retailers. All shoppers need to do is search for the item they need and the website will rank them from the cheapest to the most expensive one.
  • CamelCamelCamel only works on goods being sold on Amazon. To use it, type in the URL of the product you want to check the price of.

There’s currently women’s high heels on sale for £3 instead of £52, women’s Chelsea boots for £18 instead of £90 and men’s sandals for £12 instead of £35.

Schuh also has a similar page on its website for ex-display items with similar levels of discounts.
