A DISCOUNT retailer is offering Christmas chocolate tubs for just 99p but not everyone is impressed.

Discount Dragon is an online retailer that sells a wide selection of everyday brands and home essentials.

Shoppers can take advantage of some massive discounts usually because some items are nearing their best-before date.

Either that, or the packaging might be faulty, or the product is a limited edition or end-of-line and no longer readily available.

At the moment the retailer is causing a stir with shoppers online as it has a 650g tub of Celebrations chocolates for just 99p.

The normal retail price for these popular chocs is £5, so this is a £4 saving on what you might pay elsewhere.

But if you are just going to the website with the intention of buying just the Celebrations then it doesn’t work out to be such a great deal.

The item is limited to one per customer and delivery is charged at £5.99 or free if you are spending over £25.

So unless you are purchasing something else you are not saving money at all.

Bargain hunters were quick to spot this on Hotdeals.com and took to the comments to express their disappointment.

One said: “Absolutely fantastic find Discount Dragon. However only one per customer which means you have to waste £24 on something else.”

Another commented: “That’s their whole business model. How to get customers to buy one or two things they want plus a load of things they don’t really want or need.”

While another disgruntled shopper added: “What’s the point in this? It’s one per customer, not really a deal more a way of getting people signed up with them.”

However, one person was choosing to look on the bright side and said: “Maybe it’s a good job you can’t order 26 tubs of these to be munched in just over a week.”

Lots of other retailers stock tubs of Celebrations and it is always best to shop around to make sure that you are getting the best deal.

You can always use the Google Shopping tab to compare the price with other retailers.

And websites like trolley.co.uk let you compare thousands of products based on their online prices.

We had a look around to see what other supermarkets were currently charging for a tub of Celebrations.

Tesco had them in stock at £5, or £4 if you are a Clubcard holder, and Asda is retailing them at £4.50.

Sainsbury’s did not have any in stock online, but that doesn’t mean that they do not have them in the store.

Prices can change all the time and it is best to do your own research when you are ready to buy.

Is there anything similar out there?

There are other online supermarkets out there selling discounted items.

Motatos is an online supermarket that sells surplus or short-dated stock.

Shoppers can pick up branded products such as Walkers, Coca-Cola, Heinz and Kellogg’s.

When we checked earlier this month, it was even selling some items cheaper than discounters Aldi and Lidl.

Approved Food is another online shop offering consumers products beyond their “best before” dates and at discounted prices.

There are also social supermarkets where people struggling with the cost of living can get cheaper food and non-food items.
