A Chinese fashion giant has vowed to invest £12million to improve standards at its supplier factories after admitting that working hours at two sites breached rules.

Shein said an independent investigation, launched after allegations over labour abuse made in a recent Channel 4 documentary, had uncovered that employees at two of its Chinese sites were working hours that were longer than allowed under local regulations.

Staff at one of the factories in Guangzhou were working up to 13-and-a-half hour days with just two to three days off a month.

Those at the second site were working up to 12-and-a-half hours a day, with no fixed structure for days off.

Shein has cut orders from the manufacturers which operate the sites by three quarters and given them a deadline of December 31 to address their working hours or face possible further action.

The claims in Untold: Inside The Shein Machine has seen the group come under heavy fire, with its recently launched licensed collection with The Rolling Stones reportedly set to be terminated due to the allegations.
