Under fire: Glaxo boss Emma Walmsley

GlaxoSmithKline boss Emma Walmsley is facing demands from a second activist investor that she reapply for her own job.

Bluebell Capital Partners, a London asset manager, wants a ‘thorough and robust’ process to choose a leader after the pharmaceuticals and consumer businesses are separated.

It previously lobbied successfully to oust consumer goods giant Danone’s boss. Bluebell is echoing US activist Elliott.

It said: ‘[Glaxo] deserves the right leadership, able to review and potentially adjust the strategy outlined in June, ensure high quality execution, and rebuild trust with employees, customers, suppliers and shareholders.’

Glaxo said: ‘The board is confident that we have the right strategy and the right team.’
