The slimy sea creatures can be given a crunch by marinating them in alcohol, or doused them in salt and vinegar.

Researcher Dr Mathias Clausen even said: “It’s not an unfamiliar taste — it’s a bit like pork scratchings.”

His team at Southern Denmark University now experimenting with flavour options.

Meanwhile a Food of the Future report by Sainsbury’s confirmed: “Recent research has found jellyfish to be full of nutrients and vitamins.

“In recent years, jellyfish blooms have become a source of concern for communities and industries near the coast.

“Danish researchers have devised a method to turn jellyfish, which are rich in nutrients, into crunchy chips.”
