WHO hasn’t watched a hilarious TikTok video?

While viral trends and dances are keeping us amused in lockdown, cleaning and mum bloggers are also going down a storm — and they could save you time and money. Here are some of my favourite household hacks from savvy social media stars . . .

SCENT-SATIONAL: TikTok user Mama Mila makes her DIY air freshener using rice, essential oil and a mason jar — it couldn’t be easier. Take a jar with holes in the lid (easily found online or made at home with a pair of scissors). Next, add a cup of uncooked rice, which will act as a natural deodoriser. Then add ten drops of essential oil in a scent that you like — this will coat the rice and keep your room smelling fresh.

MOP UP SAVINGS: TikToker Mrs C revealed her tip for Flash mop users. Rather than forking out for the official Flash wipe refills, she suggests picking up a reusable version instead. She explains: “Microfibre mop pads are around £1.99, they stick straight onto your mop (if it has stick-on pads). And once you have finished you can just wash it instead of buying new pads every few weeks.”

WARM TO THIS: Kyle James, also known as TikTok’s That Property Guy, revealed how foil can boost your radiators and lessen your heating bill. All you need is some specialist radiator foil — or regular foil will also do the trick. With sellotape, stick it to the wall behind the radiator. Kyle says: “It’s a good idea to do it on radiators on external walls.” This keeps everything toasty, without a big spend. B&Q sells the silver stuff for just £11.67 – or grab some tin foil from Asda for just 65p.

THE FAB FLOOR: Moved furniture around just to find big dents in your carpet? TikTok page Clean That Up revealed exactly how to fix this without splashing out on new flooring. Lay a damp cloth over the dent and press it with an iron for 15 seconds before scratching at the fibres with a fork. Simple!
