CHOCOLATE is the best treat out there, but raw material prices are up almost five per cent over the past year.
Swap big brands for these delicious dupes and save a packet…
MILKING IT: Dairy Milk Fruit & Nut is one of the nation’s favourite chocolate bars (as found in a 2021 survey), but switch that bar, at £1.79 for 200g, for Asda’s own-brand fruit and nut milk chocolate bar also 200g, for 90p. It tastes just as good!
SAVE: 89p
SALT IT OUT: Lindt chocolate is lovely, but it comes with a luxury price. The Lindt Excellence Dark Sea Salt bar costs £2.10, so instead nab Aldi’s Moser Roth equivalent for £1.49. If you need something more budget-friendly for kids’ lunchboxes, pick up Aldi’s version of Penguin bars (normally around £1 for eight bars at Tesco) and instead try the Belmont Seal bars, just 79p for the same amount.
SAVE: up to 61p
TAKING THE BISCUIT: Get a nine-pack of single Twix fingers for £1.60 from Waitrose or buy Lidl’s Mister Choc caramel and biscuit bar five-pack for 56p! Lidl also does a brilliant Mister Choc peanut & choco bar, 62p for a four-pack, a great dupe for Snickers, which normally cost £1.25 for four bars from Sainsbury’s.
SAVE: up to £1.04
NUT A PROBLEM: Who doesn’t love a crispy Kinder Bueno bar? Pick up a triple-pack at Iceland for £1.30. Or grab the Ferrero Duplo bars that taste very similar, currently on offer at Morrisons for £1.20 for a five-pack.
SAVE: 10p
SWEET TREAT: If chocolate isn’t your thing, there are some other great sweet swaps.
The hugely popular M&S Percy Pigs are delicious, but at £2.20 per bag, it’s worth heading to Poundland for its very similar Dinky Dog Gummy sweets. Meanwhile, Rowntree’s Fruit Pastilles are £1.30 for 143g at Sainsbury’s, but over at Morrison’s, its excellent own-brand lookalike pastilles are £1 for 227g. A lot more, for a lot less!
SAVE: up to £1.20
