The government has been deluged with thousands of personal stories of harassment from women and girls across the country as demands grow for greater legal protection in the wake of the alleged kidnap and murder of Sarah Everard.

An official call for people to share their experiences and opinions of crimes aimed at women has already received an extraordinary 20,000 submissions since Friday night.
