SAMSUNG’s oldest eligible line of foldable phones are set to receive a host of new perks, including a major camera upgrade, after a delay.

The long-awaited One UI 6 upgrade – the biggest system update of the next 12 months – is being rolled out to Samsung devices in phases.

It's important to note that some Samsung owners will be excluded from the free upgrade entirely, such as the original Galaxy Fold handset

In late November, The Sun revealed the full list of Samsung handsets due to receive the sparkly new update and when.

However, the Korean phone company has been running slightly late with the updates for select models.

Newer models of the Galaxy Fold and Flip have already received the update – which carries much of the same perks from Android 14.

Now, several of the more dated foldable phones, including the Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 4, and Galaxy Z Fold 4, will see the update available for download in the coming days.

It’s important to note that some Samsung owners will be excluded from the free upgrade entirely, such as the original Galaxy Fold handset.

The One UI 6 update – also known as Android 14 for other models – brings a host of new camera and photo editing features, but not all of them are built into the default camera or gallery apps.

Many of the new features are hiding inside the Samsung-exclusive app Galaxy Enhance-X, which has injected artificial intelligence (AI) into the art of editing snaps.

While Galaxy Enhance-X initially launched last year, the hefty One UI 6 update means the app is bursting with new features.

To name a few:

  1. A Sky Guide for identifying constellations, galaxies, and more in photos of the night sky
  2. Option to add a long-exposure effect to short videos
  3. Reducing blur and noise in pictures to improve quality
  4. Improved one-tap automatic photo enhancement

A new button layout has brought along dedicated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth icons to the top of the screen for easy access.

Samsung owners (and millions of other Android fans) will also be able to reposition the clock on their Lock screen for added customisation.

There’s a more “stylish and modern” default font, according to experts at SamMobile, that can be selected in Settings.

Pop-up windows will stay open when you navigate over to the Recents screen, so users can pick up where they left off.

Samsung owners can also enjoy a new weather widget with enhanced illustrations alongside more information about snowfall, atmospheric pressure and moon phases.

The camera app is gaining custom widgets to choose from, more alignment options for watermarks, easier video sizing options, quality optimisation and a new Auto FPS setting for brighter videos.

Samsung is already working on One UI 6.1, according to reports, which is rumoured to include battery protection modes and even more generative AI features.
