Leader of the Church of England attacks asylum scheme as charities stress that children could be among those shipped to Africa

Boris Johnson’s plan to send asylum seekers to Rwanda does not “stand the judgment of God,” according to the archbishop of Canterbury.

In a scathing intervention, the head of the Church of England, Justin Welby, will use his Easter Sunday sermon to say that the principle of deporting asylum seekers 4,000 miles from where they sought sanctuary is akin to “sub-contracting our responsibilities” and the “opposite of the nature of God”.
