A third of the arrivals, who swam and used inflatable boats, were minors, Spanish officials say

About 1,000 migrants, a third of them minors, swam and used inflatable boats to reach Spain’s north African enclave of Ceuta on Monday, Spanish officials said, describing it as a “record” number for a single day.

The influx comes at a point of diplomatic tension between Madrid and Rabat over the presence of a Western Sahara independence leader in Spain, which could affect the two countries’ joint efforts to fight illegal immigration.
